Sacred Maya

The Sacred Maya Journey seeks to recreate part of the ancient history of the Mayan Culture through a sacred ritual that the Mayas performed year after year to worship their Goddess Ixchel. The ceremony started days before at the commercial center “Ppolé” (now Xcaret), the place where different products were commercialized for the offering to the Goddess. After a variety of different dances, ceremonies and purification rituals the Mayas would start paddling their canoes to Cozumel to worship the goddess…

Baby turtles observation Workshop

This eco-educational experience takes place at Faro Celarain Eco Park at 5:00 p.m. You will be able to watch how baby turtles emerge from their nests and go out to the ocean.

Independence day in Mexico

A nationwide festival celebrating Mexican Independence Day. On September 15 local residents and visitors congregate around the City Hall to participate in the traditional “grito,” or cry for independence. Led by the Mayor of Cozumel from the balcony at City Hall, the cry “Viva Mexico” is made. Following the “grito” is an impressive fireworks display and other festivities including traditional foods as well as musical and folkloric dance performances.

Festivity of San Miguel Archangel

One of Cozumel's most important religious festivals honoring San Miguel Arcángel, Saint Michael, Patron Saint of the island. The celebration begins on September 21, featuring colorful processions that start from the church of San Miguel and go throughout downtown, along with lively food and craft fairs. During this time, local residents attend mass and take part in daily processions wearing traditional Mayan outfits called "hipiles".
